About The Comp Guys

This site is published by Dan Swenson, Roger Poehls, Grant Buchanan, and Robert Wilson, Minnesota workers' compensation attorneys. The idea is simple: give injured workers the tools to check the math themselves. The free calculators run the statutory formulas for your wage rate, weekly benefits, permanency, deadlines, attorney fees, and offsets — each one shows its work and cites the rule. We also publish plain-English explanations of the rules and a directory of Qualified Rehabilitation Consultants (QRCs).

Why we built this

Most injured workers are new to this system, and it is hard to tell whether the insurer's math is right. We would rather hand you the answer than have you guess. Check your benefits with the calculators, learn the rules on the education pages, and look up a QRC when you need one. If your claim is on track, you may not need a lawyer at all — and if it is going sideways, you will know why and what to ask.

What this site is (and is not)

  • Tools: Free calculators that run Minn. Stat. ch. 176 and the DLI rate-table math right in your browser, showing the formula and source. No login, and nothing you enter is saved on our end.
  • Education:The education pages summarize Minnesota workers' compensation rules in plain English and cite the controlling authorities when possible.
  • A directory: QRC and vendor information is compiled from published lists and may be incomplete or out of date. Always confirm directly with the person or firm before relying on it.
  • Not legal advice: This site is general information. Every case is different. If you need advice for your situation, talk to a lawyer.

Updates and accuracy

The directory is built from published lists, and it can drift as phone numbers and emails change. The education pages are updated as rules and common disputes change. If you spot an error, please reach out so we can fix it.
